Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have revived their campaign at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after recording a 2-0 victory over Puerto Rico in their second Group B fixture.
The Nigerian youngsters started strongly and took the lead in the 25th minute through Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, who capitalised on an attacking opportunity to put her side ahead. The goal gave the Flamingos greater confidence as they sought to secure their first points of the tournament following their opening-day defeat to Poland.
Puerto Rico attempted to fight back and created opportunities of its own, but Nigeria maintained its advantage through disciplined defending and persistent attacking pressure. Despite efforts from the opposing side to find an equaliser, the Flamingos held firm as the contest progressed.
Substitute Precious Oscar eventually sealed the victory in the third minute of stoppage time, scoring in the 90th minute plus three to give Nigeria a crucial two-goal cushion. The late strike ensured the team collected all three points and improved its position in Group B.
The Flamingos will now turn their attention to a challenging encounter against defending champions North Korea on Friday, October 23. Nigeria will be seeking another positive result to strengthen its chances of advancing to the knockout stage of the competition.
