A police investigation into the disappearance of a 23-year-old woman, Mmesoma Umeorini, has led to the arrest of a man suspected of being responsible for her death in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The incident came to the attention of the police after the victim’s mother reported that her daughter was missing on October 16, 2026. The report prompted security operatives to begin efforts to locate the young woman.
Police operatives, working with members of the Agunechemba security outfit in Uga, subsequently arrested a suspect identified as Chima Ofoeke, who was reportedly the deceased’s former boyfriend.
Investigators said the suspect allegedly confessed during questioning to killing Umeorini after their relationship ended. He also reportedly provided information that led security operatives to the discovery of her remains.
Following the discovery, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation.
The police said the investigation would focus on establishing the full circumstances of the woman’s death and gathering evidence for possible prosecution.
The command reiterated its determination to tackle violent crimes and called on members of the public to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in maintaining safety across the state.
