Residents in parts of Bayelsa State have appealed to the state government to urgently rehabilitate deteriorating roads, citing the difficulties motorists, commuters and pedestrians face while travelling through affected communities.
The residents expressed concern that the poor condition of some roads has made daily movement increasingly challenging, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. They called on the relevant authorities to inspect the affected routes and take practical steps towards restoring them.
According to the concerns raised by residents, damaged road surfaces can increase transportation costs, cause delays and expose vehicles to frequent mechanical problems. Traders and other business owners may also experience difficulties moving goods and accessing customers when major routes become difficult to navigate.
The situation has renewed calls for improved road maintenance and stronger infrastructure planning across the state. Residents want the government to prioritise roads that serve densely populated communities and important commercial areas, rather than allowing existing damage to worsen.
They urged the Bayelsa State Government to respond with a clear rehabilitation plan and sustained maintenance measures. Residents say improved roads would make transportation safer, support local businesses and enhance movement between communities across the state.
