The Lagos State Government has directed residents to obtain health insurance coverage before the end of the year, setting December 31, 2026, as the deadline for enrolment.

The directive is part of efforts to expand access to affordable healthcare and encourage more people to prepare financially for medical emergencies rather than pay the full cost of treatment out of pocket.

The state government is urging individuals, families and other eligible residents to take advantage of the available health insurance arrangements to reduce the financial burden associated with accessing medical services.

The initiative is also aimed at strengthening the state’s healthcare delivery system by ensuring that more residents can obtain medical attention when needed, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Health insurance allows enrollees to access covered medical services under an established arrangement, helping to reduce the amount they would otherwise spend directly on treatment, consultations and other approved healthcare needs.

Residents have therefore been encouraged to complete the registration process before the stipulated deadline to avoid missing out on the benefits available under the state’s health insurance programme.

The government reiterated the importance of wider insurance coverage as part of its efforts to improve healthcare accessibility and promote the well-being of Lagos residents.
