A series of reported attacks on women in Enugu has led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man, Ugbor Paul, who is being investigated over allegations of rape, armed robbery and blackmail involving nude photographs and videos.
The Enugu State Police Command said investigations linked the suspect to incidents in which female Point-of-Sale operators were allegedly deceived into meeting him before being robbed and sexually assaulted.
Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe disclosed that the suspect allegedly approached his targets under the pretext of conducting financial transactions. Investigators believe he used the arrangement to gain the women’s trust and lure them to secluded areas.
Authorities also alleged that the suspect operated a Facebook account under the name Franklin Umeh to make contact with women. A mobile phone reportedly recovered during his arrest contained explicit images and videos believed to be connected to several victims.
Among the cases being examined is an alleged attack on a 20-year-old POS operator on May 21, 2026. The woman reportedly lost ₦600,000 during the incident, which allegedly occurred in a bush behind St. Peter’s Church in the Coal Camp area of Enugu.
Another female POS operator, aged 30, reportedly suffered an attack at the same location on August 11, 2026. According to the police, she was allegedly robbed of ₦120,000, while the suspect also attempted to sexually assault her.
Investigators are also looking into a complaint involving a 21-year-old woman who allegedly met the suspect on October 4, 2026. She was reportedly taken to an isolated area along Udi Siding, where she was allegedly raped and dispossessed of her phone and ₦100,000.
The police further alleged that the suspect later threatened to circulate nude footage of the woman unless she paid ₦200,000. He was also accused of using her stolen phone to contact people in her WhatsApp list.
The command said investigations were ongoing ahead of the suspect’s prosecution. It urged other individuals who may have experienced similar attacks or threats to report to the appropriate authorities to assist the investigation.
