Leaders of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) have handed a 22-year-old suspect over to the police following the circulation of a controversial video on social media.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the content of the viral footage and the need for security agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding its creation and circulation. The suspect is expected to assist investigators as they work to determine the facts of the case.
The suspect, identified as Umar Ibrahim Gandi Maradun of Zamfara State, was reportedly linked to footage containing alleged threats of violence against Christians in Enugu and Plateau states. The video has sparked public concern over religious intolerance and the potential danger of inflammatory statements.
JIBWIS leaders have distanced the organisation from the alleged remarks, stressing that they do not represent its position. Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the recording, and the suspect could face charges if sufficient evidence establishes an offence. Authorities have also urged the public to remain calm and avoid circulating the video or unverified claims that could heighten religious tension.
