Residents and businesses in Aba are expected to benefit from two road projects as the Abia State Government prepares for the official flag-off of construction on Old Express Road and Uratta Road on October 21, 2026.
Governor Alex Otti will lead the ceremony for the two routes, which measure 3.95 kilometres and 3.9 kilometres respectively. The projects are expected to improve access within the commercial centre and support the transportation of people and goods.
The development was announced by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a press briefing at Government House, Umuahia, on Monday, October 12. He spoke after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the governor.
Kanu noted that work had commenced on both roads before the official flag-off. He explained that the projects were being executed under the Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project, known as ABSIID, which seeks to tackle the state’s infrastructure challenges through coordinated development.
He further stated that more road projects under the programme would be formally unveiled in the coming weeks. The ongoing initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving road access and creating a more supportive environment for commercial activities across Abia State.
