Political conversations around the 2027
The initiative, unveiled in Abuja, is seen by observers as a strategic attempt to draft the federal lawmaker into the race, even as he has yet to publicly declare interest. Members of the group said their action reflects a growing sentiment among party loyalists and professionals who believe Kalu’s leadership style could reshape governance in the state.
According to those involved, the Deputy Speaker’s influence within the National Assembly and his efforts at strengthening party structures in the South-East have made him a strong contender in the eyes of many stakeholders. They also pointed to what they described as his capacity to bridge political divides and attract development opportunities.
Sources within the group suggested that consultations had been ongoing for months, culminating in the decision to purchase the forms as a signal of seriousness and commitment to the project.
While receiving the gesture, Kalu acknowledged the support but stopped short of confirming any ambition. He indicated that broader consultations with political associates and constituents would guide his eventual decision on whether to join the contest.
The development is expected to reshape early alignments within the APC in Abia as the countdown to the 2027 elections gradually gathers pace.
