The Federal Government has commissioned a new automotive training centre in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, with the facility designed to equip young Nigerians and practising technicians with practical skills for the growing automobile industry.
The centre, established by the National Automotive Design and Development Council, is expected to provide hands-on training in areas including vehicle diagnostics, repairs, maintenance and other modern automotive technologies. It is also expected to serve trainees from across the South-East.
At the commissioning, government officials said developing specialised technical skills is important to the growth of Nigeria’s automotive sector and the creation of employment opportunities. The facility is expected to support technology development, local expertise and entrepreneurship among young people.
The Ebonyi State Government has also encouraged youths, artisans and other interested residents to take advantage of the facility and acquire skills that could open opportunities in vehicle maintenance, fabrication, component production and emerging areas of automobile technology.
Officials said the centre forms part of wider efforts to build a skilled workforce capable of responding to changes in the automotive industry, including the increasing adoption of digital systems and electric-vehicle technology.
