The Federal Government has rolled out a special shopping initiative aimed at reducing the cost of goods for serving and retired members of the Nigerian military, veterans and their families.
The scheme, unveiled in Abuja, provides eligible beneficiaries with access to selected products at discounted rates through an online platform operated in partnership with Konga.
Speaking at the launch, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the initiative was part of efforts to improve the welfare of military personnel and recognise their contributions to national security.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, said the discount programme formed part of broader measures being developed under the military’s “Soldier First” approach. He disclosed that additional welfare programmes were expected to be introduced in the coming months.
Oluyede also revealed that the military was engaging major companies, including Dangote Group and BUA Cement, over possible partnerships that could give personnel easier access to essential commodities and building materials.
A Memorandum of Understanding was subsequently signed between Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group as part of arrangements to strengthen and implement the new welfare scheme.
