Rivers State Governor, has approved a 50 per cent increase in the overhead allocation for the state judiciary as part of measures to strengthen its operations.

The governor made the announcement during a special court session held in Port Harcourt to mark the beginning of the 2026/2027 legal year.

According to Fubara, the additional funding is expected to cover the judiciary’s operational expenses while improving the welfare and training of judges, magistrates and other judicial personnel.

He said the state government remained committed to respecting the autonomy of the judiciary and providing the resources required for effective justice administration.

Fubara also acknowledged challenges confronting the judicial system, including inadequate infrastructure, manpower shortages, heavy caseloads and delays in handling cases.

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, commended the governor for supporting the judiciary and called for continued investment in manpower and improved working conditions to strengthen the administration of justice.
