More than 380 suspects have been arrested and over 230 convictions secured in Kano State following an intensified campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The figures were disclosed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during the state’s Independence Day celebration. He said the enforcement drive began after the establishment of a multi-agency task force in July to tackle drug-related offences, thuggery and other criminal activities.

According to the governor, the task force has carried out operations targeting drug-selling locations and criminal hideouts in different parts of the state. The operations have also resulted in the recovery of illicit substances and dangerous weapons.

The state government says the campaign goes beyond arrests and prosecution, with efforts also directed at rehabilitation and reintegration. Authorities have previously reported plans to provide treatment, skills training and other support for youths affected by drug abuse.

Governor Yusuf urged residents, community leaders, religious institutions, parents and security agencies to work together in tackling the problem. He also appealed to young people to stay away from drugs and violence and consider education, vocational training, agriculture, technology and legitimate businesses.
