Nigeria’s Davis Cup campaign came to an end in Rabat after Morocco completed a 4-0 victory in their World Group II tie.
The hosts had already established a strong advantage on Saturday, winning both opening singles matches. Karim Bennani defeated Canice Abua 6-1, 6-2, while Yassine Dlimi recorded the same scoreline against Yusuf Abubakar.
Nigeria needed a victory in Sunday’s doubles to remain in contention, but Morocco’s Younes Lalami and Dlimi proved too strong for Michael Emmanuel and Abubakar, winning 6-3, 6-2. Amine Jamji then completed the clean sweep by beating Emmanuel 6-3, 6-4 in the reverse singles.
The loss ends Nigeria’s first World Group II campaign since securing promotion with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan in February. That promotion was the country’s highest Davis Cup achievement and came after a 30-year absence from the level.
Morocco’s triumph sends them into the 2027 World Group I Play-offs, while Nigeria will continue in the World Group II Play-offs next year. The result also means Nigeria are still searching for their first Davis Cup victory against Morocco after five meetings dating back to 1973.
