The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting families of personnel and other victims affected by the recent aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, assuring them that approved welfare benefits and other forms of assistance will be provided.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, gave the assurance as recovery operations continued at the crash site, where difficult underwater conditions have slowed efforts to access the wreckage.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the support package will cover applicable entitlements, benevolent funds, scholarships for eligible children and other approved welfare provisions.
The Air Force said it had also established a dedicated helpline at its headquarters to enable affected families to obtain timely information and clarification regarding the ongoing recovery exercise and their welfare entitlements.
Meanwhile, the Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Michael Chinegwu Ekwueme, visited Igbokoda on the directive of the Air Chief to engage community leaders and residents over concerns about the possible impact of recovery activities on local water sources.
During the visit, Ekwueme acknowledged the concerns raised by residents and assured them that the Air Force would work through appropriate channels to address the issues. He also commended the community for its patience and cooperation.
Recovery teams have deployed multiple pumping machines to drain water around the crash site in an effort to reach the main wreckage, which remains submerged and deeply embedded in the riverbed. The operation requires specialised equipment, sustained technical support and careful coordination.
The NAF said it would continue working with relevant agencies and community stakeholders to advance the recovery process safely, support affected families and provide verified updates as significant developments emerge.
