The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has officially launched its campaign for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, with its candidate, Linus Abaa-Okorie, promising to make effective representation a major focus of his bid.
Speaking at the campaign flag-off in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Abaa-Okorie said his experience in the National Assembly would be brought to bear if elected. He represented Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2019.
The former federal lawmaker highlighted unemployment, healthcare, agricultural development, infrastructure and support for young people and small businesses among the issues he intends to prioritise. He also promised to create a more accessible channel through which constituents can communicate their needs and monitor legislative interventions.
Abaa-Okorie explained that lawmakers do not directly execute most government projects but can influence policies, budgets and federal programmes through effective legislation and oversight. He therefore called on residents of Ebonyi South to assess candidates based on their capacity to deliver accountable and measurable representation.
The NDC candidate urged voters across the senatorial district to support his campaign and work with the party towards the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that his proposed approach would strengthen the relationship between the people and their representative at the National Assembly.
