The push to mend political differences in Rivers State has taken another turn following a private meeting between Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and APC governorship hopeful Kingsley Chinda.

The politicians reportedly converged at Fubara’s residence in Port Harcourt, where they held extensive discussions away from the public and the media.

Wike and Chinda were said to have arrived at about 4 p.m. alongside their supporters. They subsequently met with the governor and members of his political camp as part of efforts believed to be aimed at finding common ground among the state’s influential political blocs.

The development comes after a prolonged period of political hostility in Rivers State, which saw Fubara and several political actors, including members of the State House of Assembly, become embroiled in a bitter power struggle.

The crisis had widened the divide within the state’s political establishment and generated considerable attention across the country.

However, the latest engagement appears to signal continued attempts to resolve the differences and rebuild relationships among the rival camps.

The meeting reportedly continued for roughly four hours before the participants departed at about 8 p.m.

No official statement was issued after the talks, while Fubara, Wike and Chinda all avoided speaking to journalists. Supporters who attended the meeting equally kept their lips sealed on what was discussed, leaving the substance and outcome of the talks undisclosed.
