Zenith Bank Plc increased its lending to customers by approximately ₦1.6tn in the first six months of 2026, bringing its outstanding loans and advances to ₦12.05tn, according to its latest financial disclosures.
The development formed part of the bank’s financial performance for the period ending June 30, 2026, during which its total assets rose to ₦32.65tn from ₦31.46tn recorded at the close of the previous year.
Customer deposits remained a major source of funding for the lender, increasing to ₦26.35tn from ₦24.33tn in December 2025. The growth indicates that the bank attracted additional customer funds while expanding the volume of credit available to borrowers.
However, the increase in business activity did not translate into higher after-tax earnings. Zenith Bank’s profit after tax declined to ₦430.76bn in the first half of 2026, compared with ₦532.18bn in the corresponding period of the previous year. Meanwhile, profit before tax rose slightly to ₦637.60bn from ₦625.63bn.
The results present a mixed picture for the financial institution, combining stronger lending activity and an expanding asset base with reduced net earnings. The figures also provide an indication of the bank’s continued role in financing businesses and other customers amid changing conditions in Nigeria’s banking industry.
