The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is set to conduct a test exercise of its election technology in November as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The commission is already testing the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, which is expected to be deployed during the next general election. The planned exercise is intended to assess the readiness of the technology ahead of the polls.
INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, disclosed the plan during a political programme in Akure. He said the commission is taking practical measures to strengthen the electoral process and improve voter participation.
The planned mock exercise will form part of wider preparations that include voter education and public sensitisation. INEC says these activities will be intensified as the election draws closer.
The commission has also assured Nigerians that it is working towards an electoral process that is free, fair, inclusive and acceptable, while stakeholders at the event called for greater citizen participation and continued engagement with the democratic process.
