The Enugu State Government says it is strengthening healthcare services for women and newborn babies, with renewed attention on reproductive, maternal and neonatal care across the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Professor George Ugwu, disclosed this at a stakeholders’ meeting held to review findings from a mid-term assessment of reproductive, maternal and neonatal health services.
The assessment was used to identify weaknesses within the healthcare system and determine areas requiring additional intervention. Stakeholders examined issues including healthcare personnel, medical equipment, essential supplies, data management and the availability of critical health commodities.
The government also said its ongoing investment in healthcare infrastructure is aimed at improving service delivery. It highlighted the planned commencement of operations at the 300-bed Enugu International Hospital as part of efforts to expand access to specialised medical care.
Officials said the findings from the assessment will guide future interventions and help improve the availability of quality and sustainable healthcare services for women, mothers and newborns across Enugu State.
