The Labour Party has renewed its appeal for public support ahead of the 2027 general elections, highlighting the administration of Abia State Governor Alex Otti as an example of what the party says it seeks to achieve through governance. The message was contained in the party’s statement marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, acknowledged the economic difficulties, insecurity and other challenges confronting the country. He nevertheless urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and continue demanding accountability from political leaders rather than becoming discouraged by the situation.
Asogwa called on public officials to place citizens’ welfare at the centre of governance, with emphasis on empathy, justice and transparency. He said the country’s challenges should reinforce the need for responsible leadership and greater accountability.
The Labour Party said it has candidates contesting various positions in the 2027 elections, from the presidential race to state assembly seats. It urged Nigerians to examine its candidates and political platform as parties intensify their preparations for the elections.
The party also specifically referenced Otti’s administration in Abia as what it described as evidence of its capacity to translate political promises into governance. The statement comes as political parties increase mobilisation and public messaging ahead of the 2027 polls.
