The Labour Party has called on governors and other public office holders across the country to adopt what it described as the leadership approach of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti. The party made the appeal in its Independence Day message as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, said Otti’s administration represents, in the party’s view, an example of the kind of governance it seeks to promote. He linked the governor’s record to the party’s preparations for the next elections and its plans to field candidates at different levels.
Asogwa urged political leaders to place the welfare of citizens at the centre of their responsibilities, with emphasis on empathy, justice and transparency. He also called on Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the economic and security challenges confronting the country.
The Labour Party said it would contest the 2027 elections from the presidential level down to state assembly positions. The party described its candidates as competent and credible, while urging voters to consider its platform as political parties intensify preparations for the polls.
The statement comes amid growing political activity ahead of 2027, with parties and political actors increasingly highlighting governance records, policy positions and proposed programmes as they seek public support.
