Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has dismissed reports of a political “Rainbow Coalition” operating in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Umahi said he was not aware of any such political arrangement in the state, while maintaining that Ebonyi remains aligned with the All Progressives Congress and its candidates. His comments come amid growing political activity and disagreements over the role of the coalition associated with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The minister said politicians from other parties are free to campaign in Ebonyi, but cautioned against hate speech and activities that could trigger political tension or unrest. He also said his relationship with Wike would not automatically extend to any political candidate Wike may support in the state.
Umahi, who left the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC, also criticised the PDP over what he described as its failure to adequately recognise the interests of the South-East. He said his continued political alignment is with the APC and President Bola Tinubu.
The comments come as political parties and groups intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with alliances and campaign structures becoming increasingly prominent across the country.
