The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for governor of Cross River State in the 2027 election, Arthur Jarvis Archibong, has refuted an allegation questioning his criminal record.
Archibong said the claim was part of efforts to undermine his political standing as parties intensify activities ahead of the forthcoming governorship poll.
Speaking in Calabar, he challenged those circulating the allegation to provide documentary or other verifiable evidence to support their claim.
The PDP candidate also made an allegation concerning the possible involvement of cult groups in political violence ahead of the election. He did not provide evidence for the claim.
The All Progressives Congress in Cross River State subsequently dismissed the allegation, with its publicity secretary, Emmanuel Inyang, rejecting Archibong’s assertions.
The development adds to the growing political exchanges among parties in the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
