Families affected by severe flooding in parts of Ebonyi State are receiving emergency assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, following the destruction of homes, farmlands and other property in several communities.
The latest intervention comes after flooding on September 23 affected communities in Ivo and Ohaozara Local Government Areas, leaving dozens of households displaced. A fresh flash flood has also struck Amaegbu Akaeze in Ivo Local Government Area, forcing residents to evacuate with their children and whatever belongings they could salvage.
The federal relief package includes food items such as rice, beans, garri and vegetable oil, alongside mattresses, mosquito nets and clothing for women. The materials are intended to provide immediate support to families dealing with the aftermath of the disaster.
Receiving the intervention, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru expressed concern over the repeated flooding incidents and their impact on communities and livelihoods. The state government also said it would supervise the distribution process to ensure the materials reach people directly affected by the floods.
Emergency officials are continuing assessments in vulnerable areas as the situation develops. The renewed flooding has heightened concerns among residents who are still recovering from the earlier disaster, with authorities expected to coordinate further relief and response measures.
