PRESS STATEMENT

ISSUED BY THE LEAGUE OF IBEKU PROFESSIONALS (LIBP), ABIA STATE, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2026

The League of Ibeku Professionals (LIBP) has issued a strong warning to Chief Charles Ogbonna to desist from dragging the respected Ibeku clan into what it describes as his personal political calculations, unwarranted attacks, and alleged attempts to execute the agenda of political paymasters.

The organisation expressed outrage over what it described as baseless, unsubstantiated, and politically motivated allegations by Ogbonna against the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha.

Ogbonna had reportedly accused the federal lawmaker of diverting two trailer loads of rice allegedly released by the Federal Government as palliatives to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

Reacting in a statement jointly signed by its President, Surveyor Samuel Aguiyi, and Secretary-General, Amb. Chijindu Emeruwa, LIBP challenged Ogbonna to provide credible, verifiable evidence to substantiate his allegations rather than resort to what it characterised as politically driven accusations.

“CHARLES OGBONNA CANNOT SIT IN JUDGMENT OVER AGUOCHA’S RECORD WITHOUT FIRST ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS OWN POLITICAL LEGACY.”

According to LIBP, Ogbonna lacks the moral standing to launch unsubstantiated attacks against Hon. Aguocha, whose legislative performance and representation, the organisation maintained, deserve to be assessed on the basis of verifiable achievements rather than political propaganda.

The group further accused Ogbonna and his political associates of presiding over years of poor governance and underdevelopment in Ikwuano/Umuahia and Abia State, challenging them to identify tangible, enduring projects attributable to their years in government.

LIBP stated that Ogbonna should be more concerned about explaining his own record in public office than attempting to discredit a serving federal lawmaker.

The organisation recalled that Ogbonna served as Deputy Chief of Staff in previous Abia State administrations between 2007 and 2015, arguing that his years in government should invite legitimate questions about the economic opportunities, industrial investments, federal projects, and social infrastructure attracted to Ibeku land during that period.

“AFTER YEARS IN GOVERNMENT, WHAT CONCRETE LEGACY CAN CHARLES OGBONNA POINT TO IN IBEKU LAND?”

LIBP argued that the people of Ibeku deserve answers about the economic and infrastructural opportunities that were not realised during previous administrations. It challenged Ogbonna and his political associates to identify the industries established, private-sector investments attracted, and strategic federal projects facilitated for the benefit of the community during their years of influence.

The organisation maintained that political leaders who had opportunities to serve the people should be prepared to account for their stewardship instead of making allegations against others without presenting convincing evidence.

On the controversy surrounding the distribution of Federal Government palliatives, LIBP insisted that Ogbonna’s claims do not reflect the experiences of many beneficiaries within the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.

According to the group, several Ibeku indigenes drawn from trading, academia, healthcare, small-scale businesses, religious institutions, traditional institutions, and the media benefited from food relief items distributed through community-based channels.

LIBP maintained that the distribution process reached beneficiaries across the constituency and challenged anyone disputing its position to engage with verifiable facts rather than sweeping accusations.

The organisation therefore called on Ogbonna to substantiate his claims with credible evidence, insisting that allegations of diversion of public relief materials are serious matters that must be addressed responsibly and transparently.

“IBEКU CLAN IS NOT A POLITICAL PROPERTY THAT ANY INDIVIDUAL CAN DEPLOY TO SETTLE PERSONAL SCORES OR ADVANCE A PRIVATE POLITICAL AGENDA.”

LIBP unequivocally dissociated the Ibeku community from what it described as Ogbonna’s unwarranted attacks on Hon. Aguocha, stressing that no individual has the authority to present personal political opinions as the collective position of an entire ancient kingdom.

The organisation declared that the Ibeku people are politically diverse, intellectually discerning, and capable of making independent decisions about their leaders. It warned that any attempt to appropriate the name of the clan for partisan purposes would be firmly resisted.

The group further insisted that Ibeku’s reputation must not be dragged into political disputes without the consent or endorsement of the wider community.

LIBP REAFFIRMS CONFIDENCE IN OTTI, AGUOCHA AND MEREGINI

Beyond its response to Ogbonna’s allegations, the League of Ibeku Professionals reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership capacities of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR; Hon. Obi Aguocha, member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency; and the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini, popularly known as Ugolee.

The organisation maintained that these leaders have contributed to a new political atmosphere in Abia State and deserve to have their records evaluated objectively by the electorate.

LIBP expressed support for continuity in governance and effective representation, arguing that the state should not sacrifice progress for political hostility, personal grievances, or the interests of individuals seeking to regain political relevance.

The organisation noted that Governor Otti’s administration, Hon. Aguocha’s legislative representation, and Meregini’s role in the State House of Assembly should be judged by their respective records, public responsibilities, and demonstrable contributions to the people.

As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, LIBP called on political actors to focus on issues that directly affect the welfare of Abia citizens rather than engage in unsubstantiated accusations and divisive rhetoric.

2027: LIBP CALLS FOR RESPONSIBLE POLITICAL CHOICES

The League of Ibeku Professionals urged eligible voters across Ibeku and the wider Abia State electorate to protect their democratic rights by participating actively in the forthcoming elections.

The organisation called on the electorate to scrutinise candidates, examine their records in public office, and support individuals they consider capable of delivering credible leadership, effective representation, economic development, and improved living standards.

It emphasised that electoral decisions should be driven by verifiable performance, integrity, competence, and a clear commitment to public service rather than political intimidation, personal attacks, or inherited loyalties.

LIBP reiterated that the people of Ibeku would not surrender their collective identity to any individual or political faction, adding that the community’s interests must take precedence over personal ambitions.

The organisation concluded by challenging Charles Ogbonna to focus on substantiating his allegations and answering legitimate questions about his own record instead of attempting to undermine the reputation of Hon. Obi Aguocha.

“OUR POSITION IS CLEAR: IBEKU CLAN CANNOT BE HIJACKED FOR PERSONAL POLITICAL AMBITION. IF CHARLES OGBONNA HAS EVIDENCE AGAINST HON. OBI AGUOCHA, LET HIM PRESENT IT. IF HE DOES NOT, HE SHOULD STOP THE ALLEGATIONS AND ALLOW THE FACTS TO SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.”
