The Nigerian Air Force has outlined its operational activities over an 11-month period, reporting more than 6,100 flight hours and over 2,900 sorties carried out in support of Nigeria’s security efforts.

The figures, covering November 2025 to September 2026, were disclosed by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, ahead of the first anniversary of Air Marshal Sunday Aneke as Chief of the Air Staff on October 30.

According to the Air Force spokesman, the operations consumed nearly 10 million litres of Jet A-1 aviation fuel. The missions included aerial surveillance, reconnaissance, precision strikes against hostile targets and air support for troops operating on the ground.

Ejodame explained that intelligence gathering played a central role in planning the missions, with commanders assessing operational objectives and outcomes to ensure that aircraft deployments contributed to the broader security campaign.

Beyond combat operations, the Air Force said it had continued to invest in personnel development, with more than 6,000 officers and other personnel receiving local training, while over 550 participated in international professional programmes.

The service also reported progress in expanding its aviation capabilities. Five helicopters were delivered in September, comprising three AW-109 Trekker Type B helicopters and two H125 helicopters. Plans are also underway to acquire 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters to strengthen its operational capacity.

On infrastructure, the Air Force disclosed that 284 projects had been approved, with 145 completed and another 139 still in progress. The projects cover accommodation, healthcare, educational facilities, roads, electricity and other essential infrastructure.

The Air Force further highlighted efforts to improve aviation safety, strengthen accountability and develop systems for assessing and responding to possible civilian harm arising from military operations.

Ejodame said the service would continue to prioritise aircraft maintenance, professional training, technological development and cooperation with other security agencies to improve its effectiveness in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
