Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has held discussions with Niger Delta figure Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, on strategies to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting focused on strengthening grassroots political engagement, voter awareness and youth participation, particularly across Nigeria’s South-East and South-South regions. Kalu also serves as Deputy Director-General for the South II Directorate of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.
The engagement followed the commissioning of the national secretariat of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Abuja. The group is expected to support the president’s campaign through community outreach and coordination of activities at ward and polling-unit levels.
Kalu described the movement as an important platform for reaching voters directly and expanding the campaign’s presence nationwide. He also highlighted government initiatives, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the establishment of the South-East Development Commission, as part of the administration’s development agenda.
The deputy speaker urged members of the movement to strengthen their structures across the country’s local government areas and wards while engaging citizens on government policies and their concerns. The meeting signals ongoing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls, although the ultimate electoral outcome will be determined by voters.
