Residents of Ohafia and surrounding communities in Abia State have been advised to remain calm as the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army conducts a scheduled shooting exercise within the area.
The exercise, which will take place at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Shooting Range, is expected to cover both daytime and nighttime operations from October 5 to October 15, 2026, with activities commencing from 9:00 a.m.
The Brigade said the training is part of its regular military exercises aimed at improving soldiers’ shooting skills, operational effectiveness and preparedness for field operations.
Residents may hear gunfire during the exercise and have been assured that such sounds are associated with the training and should not be mistaken for an emergency.
However, the Army warned residents and other members of the public against entering the shooting range or moving around areas designated for the exercise. People within nearby communities were urged to observe all safety instructions and comply with directives from security personnel.
The Brigade also assured the public that necessary security and safety arrangements had been put in place to protect lives and property throughout the exercise.
The advisory was signed by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Captain M.O. Attah, on October 5, 2026.
