Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex C. Otti, OFR, has expressed grief over the death of Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje, an indigene of the state who was among the Nigerian Air Force personnel killed in the crash of an ATR-42 aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State.
The Nigerian Air Force aircraft, identified as NAF 931, crashed on Monday, October 5, 2026, claiming the lives of military personnel on board and leaving their families and colleagues in mourning.
Governor Otti described the incident as a tragic loss, noting that the crash had caused immense pain to the victims’ families, friends, colleagues and the country.
The Governor was particularly saddened by the death of Squadron Leader Man-Ugwueje, who hailed from Umuahia, barely two weeks after he got married to Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle in Abuja.
According to Otti, the timing of the tragedy made the loss even more heartbreaking, as the newly married couple had only just begun their life together.
The Governor, on behalf of his family, the Abia State Government and the people of the state, extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Umuahia, the Nigerian Air Force and the Federal Government.
He prayed for strength and comfort for those left behind and for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased.
The condolence message was signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, on October 6, 2026.
