The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27 year old man, identified as Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya,” over alleged involvement in a series of robberies targeting Point-of-Sale operators and other unsuspecting residents in Awka, the state capital.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended on Saturday during an intelligence-driven operation aimed at dismantling criminal groups allegedly using motorcycles to carry out attacks across the state. Police said the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to improve security and curb street-level criminal activities.

Items recovered during the operation allegedly include a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other materials suspected to be connected to the reported offences. Investigators are examining the recovered items as they work to establish the suspect’s alleged role in the incidents.

According to the police, the suspect is being held in custody while investigations continue. Authorities are also working to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have participated in the alleged robberies.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that anyone found culpable is dealt with according to the law. POS operators, commercial motorcyclists and other business owners have been urged to remain alert and promptly report suspicious movements to the nearest police station. The suspect’s alleged involvement remains subject to the outcome of police investigations and due legal process.
