APST. Dr. Ngozika G. Johnson-Chukwunenye, former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abia State, has aligned her political position with the ideals of the Labour Party, expressing support for the vision and governance philosophy of Governor Alex Chioma Otti. She made the declaration during a ceremony at the Labour Party office on Ikotekpene Road, Umuahia, where she was received by the Abia State Governor, H.E. Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, alongside other party dignitaries, including the State Labour Party Chairman, Hon. Peter Azubuike.

Clarifying her position, Dr. Ngozika said she did not describe her decision as a defection to the Labour Party. Rather, she explained that she had chosen to align herself with the ideals of the party because they are consistent with her personal hope, passion and aspirations for governance and the building of human dignity.

According to her, since the 2023 governorship election, she had deliberately taken time to observe Governor Otti’s style of governance and the direction of his administration. She said her assessment over time had convinced her that the governor operates with pragmatism, deliberate planning and a sophisticated understanding of governance.

Dr. Ngozika particularly acknowledged the administration’s focus on infrastructure development, citing the visible attention to roads, urban renewal and public facilities. She also commended its efforts in education, agriculture and commerce, saying these sectors are important to improving the quality of life of the people and creating opportunities for economic growth and development.

She said her alignment with the Labour Party ideals was rooted in a broader desire to see governance centred on people, dignity and meaningful development. Dr. Ngozika stressed that her political aspiration has always been connected to improving humanity and contributing to a society where government works to uplift the lives and dignity of its citizens.

Receiving her, Governor Alex Chioma Otti welcomed Dr. Ngozika and acknowledged her decision to identify with the ideals and direction of the Labour Party. Other party dignitaries at the ceremony also welcomed her, while the State Labour Party Chairman, Hon. Peter Azubuike, described her presence as significant to the party and commended her for identifying with its principles and vision.

The ceremony marked what Dr. Ngozika described as an alignment of purpose and ideals rather than a conventional political defection. She reaffirmed her willingness to support initiatives that advance good governance, human dignity and development in Abia State, while expressing confidence in the direction of the present administration.
