The English Football Association has expressed concern over the findings of an independent commission against Manchester City, saying the decision has significant implications for the integrity of the game.
The commission found Manchester City guilty of serious breaches of Premier League financial regulations covering the period from 2009 to 2018, as well as several breaches relating to cooperation with the league’s investigation.
The Premier League said the commission found that the club used commercial arrangements that artificially increased reported revenue and reduced costs by more than 900 million pounds during the period under review. Manchester City has consistently denied wrongdoing and disputes the findings.
Manchester City has now lodged a comprehensive appeal, arguing that the commission’s decision contains significant errors of law, principle and fact. The club says it has evidence supporting its position and intends to continue through the appeal process.
The FA says it is studying the commission’s findings and will consider appropriate action while continuing to monitor the case. The matter remains ongoing, with any eventual sanctions to be determined through the relevant disciplinary process.
