Manchester United Women celebrated their 250th competitive match since the team was re-established in 2018 with a narrow 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the Women’s Super League.
Julia Zigiotti Olme provided the decisive moment in the sixth minute after capitalising on a misplaced pass from Liverpool goalkeeper Khiara Keating. The United forward quickly intercepted the ball before calmly lifting her finish over the stranded goalkeeper.
Liverpool responded strongly and created several opportunities to level the contest. United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce produced important saves, while both sides also saw efforts hit the woodwork during an entertaining first half.
The visitors continued searching for an equaliser after the break, but United’s defence remained organised and held firm under pressure. Liverpool came closest from a late corner, but Jenna Clark could not direct her header on target.
The result gives Manchester United back-to-back WSL victories and extends their unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions. The win also leaves United level with Liverpool on seven points after five league matches.
