The banking sector received a significant cash boost in September after the Central Bank of Nigeria settled about N10.9tn worth of matured Open Market Operation instruments.
The repayment represents funds that had previously been absorbed from the financial system through OMO transactions and were subsequently returned to investors when the securities expired.
However, the development did not translate into an overall increase in market liquidity, as the apex bank also raised N17.51tn through new OMO offerings during the same period.
The fresh sales outweighed the matured obligations, leaving the CBN with a net liquidity mop-up of roughly N6.62tn for September as it continued to influence money supply and short-term financial conditions.
