The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission to explain the whereabouts and utilisation of N126.46 billion in public funds.
The organisation said the electoral commission should provide Nigerians with a detailed account of the money and clarify how the funds were applied.
SERAP also called for the recovery of any amount discovered to have been misappropriated or improperly spent, insisting that public resources must be managed transparently.
The group said accountability from INEC was especially necessary with the 2027 general elections approaching, noting that confidence in the electoral process also depends on proper management of funds allocated to the commission.
SERAP consequently asked INEC to respond to its demand within seven days, warning that it could take further steps if the commission fails to provide adequate explanations.
