The Taraba State Police Command has dismissed a widely circulated report alleging that a 30-year-old man, Haruna Ishaka, died following a domestic confrontation involving his 24-year-old wife, Maimuna, in Maigoje village, Gashaka Local Government Area of the state.
The report, which generated attention on social media, claimed that the man sustained a severe genital injury during the alleged incident and later died. However, following inquiries by the Divisional Police Officer in Gashaka, the police said their findings did not establish that the reported incident had occurred.
According to the police, inquiries conducted in Maigoje village, Mai Idanu Ward and neighbouring communities failed to produce evidence supporting the allegations. Community members and local leaders contacted during the verification exercise also did not confirm the claims.
The command consequently urged members of the public, journalists and social media users to exercise caution when sharing sensitive reports, particularly those involving alleged crimes and deaths. It warned that circulating unverified information could cause unnecessary panic and damage the reputations of individuals.
The Commissioner of Police, Edwin Ogbeghagha, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining public order in the state. Residents were encouraged to verify security-related information through official channels and report genuine incidents to the nearest police station. The police maintained that the allegations should not be treated as established facts without credible evidence.
