Supporters of President Bola Tinubu have taken fresh steps to advance his re-election campaign in the South-East, with a political group establishing a dedicated leadership structure to coordinate its activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The initiative is being driven by the Ndigbo for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum, which says it intends to expand the President’s support base in a region where the All Progressives Congress faces significant political competition.
Under the new arrangement, Ambassador Sunday Udeh will lead the committee as chairman, while Dr Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr has been appointed secretary. The appointments were announced by the forum’s National Coordinator, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and its Board of Trustees chairman, Uchechukwu Okwukwu.
The development comes as political parties and support organisations begin positioning themselves for the next presidential contest. The forum said its new structure would help coordinate engagement with political stakeholders and promote Tinubu’s candidacy across the region.
Beyond setting up the committee, the group indicated that it wanted a more deliberate approach to winning over voters. It proposed presenting an electoral strategy to President Tinubu or Seyi Tinubu, with the aim of improving the administration’s political standing in the South-East.
The forum also congratulated South-East figures appointed to the APC presidential campaign council, while emphasising the need for effective coordination among supporters working towards the President’s return to office.
It expressed confidence that sustained political engagement could improve Tinubu’s electoral prospects in the region, where Peter Obi and other opposition figures remain important considerations in the contest.
However, the extent to which the new committee can translate its campaign plans into broader voter support will depend on its grassroots reach, engagement with local concerns and ability to persuade voters ahead of the 2027 polls.
