The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has reaffirmed his determination to contest the 2027 election, dismissing speculation that he may withdraw from the race in favour of incumbent Governor Francis Nwifuru.
Odii made his position known while speaking with journalists in his hometown of Isu, in Onicha Local Government Area, where he was welcomed by a large crowd. He maintained that he remained committed to seeking the mandate of Ebonyi voters and would not abandon the contest.
The PDP candidate also reacted to comments attributed to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, about a possible move to persuade him to step aside. Odii described the speculation as political manoeuvring, stressing that democratic competition should be respected and that he had not received any direct request from Umahi to withdraw.
He said his ambition was driven by what he described as the need to tackle poverty, hunger and unemployment in the state. Odii promised that, if elected, his administration would prioritise job creation, effective governance and policies aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.
Beyond his campaign promises, Odii highlighted plans to strengthen Ebonyi State University and improve healthcare delivery. Addressing medical students and other stakeholders, he pledged to promote medical education, support scholarships for eligible students and invest in health infrastructure and professional development. He said his broader vision was to place Ebonyi on a path of sustainable development and greater prosperity.
