Supporters of Peter Obi under the Obidient Movement have accused members of the All Progressives Congress of being linked to alleged attacks on their supporters in four states, raising concerns about the safety of political participants as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
The group reportedly raised the allegations in response to incidents it said had affected its members during political activities. It warned that violence, intimidation and threats against supporters of opposition parties could undermine democratic participation if not addressed promptly by the relevant authorities.
The movement’s statement, issued on October 12, cited alleged incidents in Enugu, Edo, Delta and Benue states. In Enugu, it claimed that an attack on Nigeria Democratic Congress supporters left several people injured and one person dead. In Benue, it also reported the death of a party ward chairman following an alleged assault. These claims have not been independently established in this bulletin.
In Edo, the group accused a senior APC figure of making threatening remarks against political opponents, while in Delta, it alleged that an NDC member faced harassment after participating in political activities. The movement criticised the handling of the incidents by security agencies and called for investigations, accountability and the prosecution of anyone found responsible.
The group warned that failure to address political violence could heighten tensions ahead of the 2027 elections and undermine public confidence in the democratic process. It urged its supporters to document threats, report incidents to the appropriate authorities and remain within the law. The allegations against the APC require thorough investigation, while security agencies and relevant parties have an important role in ensuring that political activities remain peaceful and that citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear.
