The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has brought a Lagos-based businessman, Christopher Elendu Enyinnwa, before a Special Offences Court in Ikeja over an alleged 30.14 million naira fraud connected to a failed slippers supply transaction involving China.
The defendant is facing four counts relating to alleged fraudulent conversion and obtaining money under false pretences. The EFCC alleged that he received the funds from Chidebere Love Okafor after offering to help procure slippers from China, but the goods were allegedly not delivered and the money was not refunded.
During the proceedings, the complainant told the court that she initially paid 2 million naira before making further payments of 11.923 million naira and 15 million naira towards the proposed business transaction. She also alleged that another 2 million Naira was later provided after the defendant reportedly said he needed funds to resolve travel-document issues.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecution subsequently called its first witness, while the defence requested more time to prepare for cross-examination. The allegations remain before the court and have not been established as fact.
Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe ordered that Enyinnwa be remanded in a correctional facility and adjourned the case to November 26, December 16 and 17, 2026, for continuation of proceedings.
