The Imo State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Lucky Adim, over allegations that he assaulted his 10-year-old daughter, Confidence, with an electric cable in Owerri. The incident came to public attention after the child was reportedly found with multiple injuries, prompting intervention from concerned members of the public.
The girl and her two younger siblings were reportedly taken to the Stand for Humanity Foundation after being rescued from the streets. Following the development, the human rights organisation petitioned the police, requesting an investigation into the alleged abuse and appropriate legal action against the suspect.
The foundation’s president, Chidiebube Okeoma, confirmed the arrest, stating that the police acted after receiving the petition. He further alleged that the suspect admitted to assaulting his daughter, although the matter remains subject to the relevant legal process.
Following the intervention, the injured child was taken to the Police Hospital in Owerri for medical attention, while her two younger siblings were placed in an orphanage for temporary care. The foundation also called for the case to be pursued through the justice system to ensure the children’s safety and welfare.
The organisation has urged the authorities to take a firm stance against child abuse, stressing that violence against children should not be dismissed as a private family matter. The incident has renewed calls for parents, caregivers and members of the public to report suspected cases of child abuse and ensure vulnerable children receive timely protection.
