The Abia State Judiciary has commenced the 2026 legal year with a church service to thank Almighty God for the opportunity to begin another judicial year and seek divine guidance for the effective administration of justice.
The service brought together members of the Bar and Bench, who reaffirmed their commitment to justice, the rule of law and the promotion of due process.
Speaking on the occasion, Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, highlighted his administration’s commitment to improving judicial infrastructure and strengthening the justice system.
The governor disclosed that ten new court halls had been constructed across the state, with five court complexes scheduled for commissioning before the end of the current legal year.
He also announced plans to commence the construction of ultra-modern court complexes in Aba and Umuahia, each designed to accommodate up to 1,000 people.
The administration further highlighted ongoing efforts to digitise operations across the executive, legislature and judiciary to improve efficiency, streamline government processes and enhance access to justice.
Also speaking at the event, His Worship Tochi Ama emphasised the importance of justice and righteousness, describing them as the foundation of God’s throne.
He urged judges, magistrates and lawyers to uphold justice and righteousness in the discharge of their duties, noting that these principles are pleasing to Almighty God.
The commencement of the 2026 legal year is expected to provide renewed impetus for judicial reforms, improved court infrastructure and the strengthening of the rule of law in Abia State.
