A former officer of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has been sentenced to more than one year in prison after admitting to accepting a $6,000 bribe in connection with an immigration case.
The 44 year old former officer, Amara Dukuly, was sentenced to 12 months and one day behind bars by a federal court in Pennsylvania. He was also ordered to pay a 6,000 dollars fine and another 6,000 dollars in restitution.
Court documents show that Dukuly received the payment in April 2025 after promising to remove references to terrorism from an individual’s immigration records and help improve the person’s case.
Investigators said Dukuly had used his position at USCIS over several years to solicit money from individuals seeking assistance with their immigration status. He pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting bribery of a public official in exchange for an official act.
Following his prison term, Dukuly will remain under supervised release for three years. The case was investigated by U.S. federal law enforcement agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector General, Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI.
