The Federal Government is seeking deeper cooperation with German manufacturers as part of efforts to rebuild Nigeria’s steel and metallurgical industries.
The Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Audu, made this known during a meeting in Abuja with a delegation of German Original Equipment Manufacturers led by Chux Onaa.
The discussions focused on possible German involvement in mineral processing, steel production, equipment manufacturing, engineering services and the transfer of modern technology to Nigerian companies.
Audu said Nigeria was interested in turning earlier engagements with Germany into practical investments and long-term industrial partnerships. He also highlighted the need to strengthen local production and reduce reliance on imported machinery and technology.
The minister noted that greater collaboration with German firms could support the development of domestic industrial value chains while creating opportunities for skills development and employment.
The German delegation said its visit was aimed at advancing previous discussions on investment and cooperation in Nigeria’s steel sector, including the use of German technologies to process raw materials for industries such as construction and manufacturing.
The latest engagement follows earlier Nigeria-Germany discussions on steel development, mining and technology transfer as the Federal Government continues efforts to expand domestic industrial capacity.
