Federal civil servants have renewed calls for the implementation of the 40 per cent peculiar allowance and the settlement of outstanding promotion arrears owed to affected workers.
The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, Trade Union Side, appealed to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to expedite action on the pending payments.
The council acknowledged the Federal Government’s recent payment of two months of outstanding wage awards but said the 40 per cent allowance linked to the N70,000 minimum wage had yet to be implemented. It noted that the allowance was expected to take effect from May 1, 2026.
The workers also identified promotion arrears involving batches seven and nine as another unresolved issue. They urged the ministry to complete the payment process and remove administrative delays affecting the affected employees.
The council warned that continued delays were contributing to growing dissatisfaction among public servants and could lead to spontaneous reactions if the outstanding matters were not addressed.
It therefore called on the government to act promptly and implement the existing directives, stressing the need to resolve the issues through continued engagement rather than allowing tensions within the public service to escalate.
