Political realignments ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State have taken another turn, following the decision of an ADC governorship aspirant to join the political coalition associated with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The development adds to the growing movement of politicians across different platforms as parties and political groups position themselves ahead of the next general elections. The move has also generated fresh attention within political circles in Rivers State.
The African Democratic Congress has remained an important platform in the state’s emerging political contest, with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar among its prominent national figures. Amaechi is also the party’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The latest alignment comes against the backdrop of competing political structures in Rivers, including the coalition linked to Wike. The Rivers ADC governorship candidate, Gabriel Pidomson, has previously criticised the coalition and insisted that the 2027 election should be decided by the people of the state.
As political activities gather momentum, the latest movement is expected to fuel further discussions over alliances, party loyalties and the changing political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections in Rivers State.
