The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission has commended the Abia State Government for its approach to managing public finances and implementing development projects across the state.

RMAFC Chairman, Dr Muhammed Shehu, gave the commendation during a visit to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, where he acknowledged recent improvements in infrastructure and other key sectors.

Shehu said the administration had demonstrated commitment to using available resources to address critical needs, particularly in road construction, healthcare, education and security.

He also drew attention to Abia’s improved performance in fiscal transparency, noting that the state had advanced from 17th to fourth position. According to him, the development, alongside the reduction in the state’s debt burden, indicated progress in financial management.

The commission’s chairman further announced plans to strengthen revenue collection and monitoring through greater use of technology. He said the ongoing review of the revenue allocation formula was intended to take into account the changing responsibilities of the different levels of government.

Governor Otti, in his response, welcomed the commission’s initiatives and expressed support for reforms that would provide states with adequate resources to meet their growing responsibilities and accelerate development.

The governor maintained that a more equitable revenue-sharing system would enhance the ability of sub-national governments to deliver meaningful projects and services to residents.
