Twenty-two people suspected of belonging to a cult group have been brought before courts in Delta State following separate arrests in Eku and Owhelogbo communities.
Police authorities said 15 of the suspects were apprehended in Eku by operatives of the Command Anti-Cult Unit and later appeared before the Federal High Court in Warri. Seven others arrested in Owhelogbo were taken before a Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The suspects are facing charges relating to alleged conspiracy and membership of an unlawful society, identified by the police as the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as Arobag.
Following their arraignment, the respective courts ordered that the accused persons be kept in correctional custody pending further proceedings. The charges remain allegations, and the suspects are subject to due legal process.
The Delta State Police Command says it will continue investigating and prosecuting cult-related cases, while appealing to parents, community leaders and residents to provide credible information that could help prevent cult activities and related violence.
