Traders at Ariaria International Market in Aba, Abia State, have openly declared their support for Governor Alex Otti’s re-election bid, taking their campaign for his second term to the streets. The traders temporarily suspended commercial activities to participate in a solidarity march aimed at demonstrating their political loyalty ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The market’s chairman, Chief Polycarp Muojiuba, said the decision to organise the rally was driven by what the traders described as improvements in road infrastructure and other sectors under the current administration. He explained that the gathering was intended to communicate their satisfaction with the governor’s performance and their desire for his continued leadership.

Muojiuba added that Ariaria Market attracts businesspeople from across Abia and neighbouring states, suggesting that the endorsement reflects the views of a broad commercial community. He also called on eligible residents to participate in voter registration and urged them to remain committed to protecting their votes during the election.

Other market leaders, including Vice Chairman Sir Ufere Godwin Inyama and Chief Security Officer Comrade Chizoba Obiukwu, also expressed confidence in Otti’s leadership. They pledged to mobilise traders, customers and their families to support the governor and other Labour Party candidates in the forthcoming elections.

The endorsement adds to the growing political mobilisation across Abia State as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum. With political parties and support groups stepping up their activities, the level of backing for the incumbent governor is emerging as a major talking point in the state’s unfolding electoral contest.
