A total of 435 workers of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board have retired from service after years of contributing to the state’s basic education sector.
The retirees, who served across the 57 local government areas and local council development areas in Lagos, were honoured during a retirement ceremony held in the state.
Among those who bowed out were education officers, directors, administrative personnel, drivers, gardeners and other support staff who had served in various capacities.
Government officials at the event encouraged the retirees to approach life after public service with discipline and purpose. They were advised to remain socially active, take proper care of their health and make responsible financial decisions.
The retirees were also encouraged to take advantage of available wellness programmes and explore productive activities, including entrepreneurship, rather than becoming inactive after retirement.
Officials further urged them to undergo regular medical examinations and manage their finances carefully, stressing that prudent planning would help them enjoy a stable and fulfilling post-service life.
The retirees expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government and LASUBEB for recognising their years of service, while pledging to remain useful to their communities beyond their formal careers.
